Columbus among cities in the running for DNC '16

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- Cleveland and Columbus have been selected by Democrats as cities where they'd like to nominate their candidate for president in 2016.

"I'm conviced if the Democrats come to Ohio we win the presidency in 2016," said Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern.

Other nearby cities include Indianapolis, Detroit, and Pittsburgh. Atlanta, Chicago, Las Vegas, Miami, Nashville, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City are also being considered.

The ability to raise money to host the event is said to be a big factor.

"Both Cleveland and Columbus will now have to put extensive proposals together, including budgets, and commitments from the private sector to help offset the cost," Redfern said.

Cities have until early June to submit their proposals.

Cleveland is also in the running for the Republican National Convention along with Cincinnati.
